Once the editorial committee have selected a book to be summarized, it is assigned to a
summary editor.
The book summary editor will
then:
1. Read the book several times to identify the main idea.
2. Develop a conceptual framework around which the summary can be built.
3. Identify all key ideas in the book.
4. Highlight supporting ideas that clarify the key points of the book.
5. Select the quotes which are used to expand and clarify.
The summary editor will then
work with a writer to develop the bulk of the book summary. This raw summary then goes
back to the editorial committee, who then provide the finishing touches.
In essence then, each book
summary is a collaborative effort.. |
